27 Dec 2013 OpenEmu may just be the best emulator available for the Mac. This awesome emulator supports an array of different gaming systems that it'll. Level up with the best games for Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS. Find a puzzle game you can drop right into, escapist RPGs, or intense strategy games. Snes9x is the result of well over three years worth of part-time hacking, coding, recoding, debugging, divorce, etc. (just kidding about the divorce bit). Snes9x is coded in C, with three assembler CPU emulation cores on the i386 Linux and Windows ports. Sep 12, 2017 Saved states are stored in the Saves directory of an Snes9x installation. On Mac versions of Snes9x, saved states use the the extension.FRZ ('frozen' states). NOTE: Unlike a normal game saved state, which may only be created at certain points in the game, 001 files can be created at any time during gameplay. Jan 02, 2021 Download SNES9X - Super Nintendo Entertainment System Emulator. User icon Login A search icon. The 'It just works' philosophy now extends to open source video game emulation on the Mac.
For people of a certain age, the SNES console represents the pinnacle of gaming. If you're looking to relive your youth in a wave of nostalgia, or you just want to see what some of the predecessors to today's games were like, Snes9X lets you jump back in time.
Snes9x Mac Big Sur
If you remember the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (or Super Famicom), Snes9X will transport you back to a different era of gaming. Despite the name, the emulator can be used to play not only SNES games (assuming you have the ROMs, that is; this is not a way to make use of your old game cartridges), but also games for the even older NES.
When you're playing your favorites games, controls can be customized so you can use a keyboard and mouse combination, or you can use a joystick or gamepad for a more authentic experience. Unlike nowadays, there were very few SNES titles that supported game saves, but this is something that Snes9X addresses -- you can save up to ten games so you can jump back in where you left off.
If you're the sort of gamer who likes to show off your high scores, best times or nifty moves, the emulator includes a recording facility that will save game footage as a video file. Other great feature include support for cheat system like Action Replay and Game Genie, so you can either cheatr or enhance your gaming experience – depending on your point of view!
As this is a portable app that does not require installation, it can be stored on a USB drive – along with your ROM collection – and moved between computers with ease. The emulator is available not only for Windows (32- and 64-bit variants), but also macOS.
Verdict:
While there is no shortage of emulator out there for all manner of consoles, not all are great quality. Snes9X offers great performance and compatibility, as well as support for a massive range of ROMs. The emulator is also highly customizable, which is a major bonus.
