PortraitPro Plug-ins

In order to set the path after upgrading PortraitPro or Photoshop you need to launch the program in standalone mode once. After that you can close PortraitPro, and the next time you launch Photoshop the PortraitPro filter will work correctly.

Due to a recent update to Adobe Creative Cloud the location for plug-ins has changed. If you get this problem, simply re-run the full installer for PortraitPro Studio or Studio Max and your plug-in will be restored. If you don't have the installer, please get it from our license manager page
This is done in the menu of PortraitPro Studio or PortaitPro Studio Max. On Windows choose the Settings option in the File menu. Press the button 'Run Plug-in Installer'.
PortraitPro will detect what version of Photoshop you have installed, and automatically find the Plug-Ins folder for you. However, if the correct place is not detected you can manually browse to the Plug-Ins folder of the Photoshop you want to use. Please make sure to check that the installation folder that PortraitPro gives you is correct for the version of Photoshop that you want to use.
The Photoshop CC Plug-in folder is normally C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Photoshop CCPlug-Ins
When launching Photoshop, make sure that you launch the correct Photoshop for the plug-in. If you launch a different Photoshop, that will not have the plug-in installed, and PortraitPro won't show up in the menu.

Photoshop needs to be restarted before it will use a new plug-in. When the plug-in is installed, you can see it in Photoshop by selecting the Filter menu option. Look down the list of filters and at the end will an entry 'Anthropics'. Choose this and you will see it expand to show the PortraitPro plug-in.
This is done in the menu of PortraitPro Studio or PortraitPro Studio Max. Choose the Preferences option.
Then go to the Plugin tab. Press the button 'Run Plug-in Installer'.

Photoshop needs to be restarted before it will use a new plug-in. When the plug-in is installed, you can see it in Photoshop by selecting the Filter menu option. Look down the list of filters and at the end will an entry 'Anthropics'. Choose this and you will see it expand to show the PortraitPro plug-in.
For Windows please use the Photoshop Plugin Installer and this should install the plugin correctly. If you still have any problems then please read on for the manual copying instructions.
The 64-bit Windows plugin is called PSFilterPPLauncher64.8bf and you can find it in the PortraitPro folder:

Copy this file (PSFilterPPLauncher64.8bf) to your 64-bit Photoshop Plug-ins folder. This can be found at:
C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Photoshop CCPlug-ins
The 32-bit Windows plugin is not usually needed now that most computers are 64 bit. It is called PSFilterPPLauncher.8bf and you can find it in the same folder as the 64 bit plug-in. Use the above instructions to install it.
The Mac Plugin file is called PSFilterPPLauncher.plugin.
You can find it by going to /Applications/PortraitProStudio or /Applications/PortraitProStudioMax right-clicking and selecting 'Show Package Contents'. In the new window that appears, go to Contents->MacOS, and you will find the plugin bundle there.
To install it into Photoshop, copy the plugin bundle to your Photoshop Plug-ins folder. You can usually find this at:
/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CC/Plug-ins.

To set up PortraitPro as an external editor for Lightroom, please follow these steps:

  • Open Lightroom and in the menu go to Edit->Preferences...
  • In the 'Additional External Editor' section, press the 'Choose' button on the right for choosing the application. A new dialog will pop up asking for the location of the program to run.
    PortraitPro Studio is usually located at C:Program FilesPortraitPro Studio PortraitProStudio.exe.
    PortraitPro Studio Trial is usually located at C:Program FilesPortraitPro Studio TrialPortraitProStudioTrial.exe.
    PortraitPro Studio Max is usually located at C:Program FilesPortraitPro Studio Max PortraitProStudioMax.exe
    Try pasting in these paths if you are not sure. Then press 'Choose' to dismiss the dialog.
  • For the 'File Format' please select TIFF. The other settings can be chosen as you wish (for example: 'Color Space': sRGB, 'Bit Depth':8 bits/component, 'Resolution':240, 'Compression': LZW ).
  • Press the 'OK' button to dismiss the Preferences dialog.
  • Open PortraitPro Studio, choose File and Settings, and make sure 'Auto-Plugin Mode' is selected.
  • PortraitPro Studio is now set up as an external editor for your images. You can now select a picture in your library, right click and choose 'Edit In' and then 'Edit in PortraitProStudio'.
To set up PortraitPro as an external editor for Lightroom, please follow these steps:

As of PortraitPro 17 we no longer support Aperture as a plug-in. It can still be set up as an external editor
To set up the Aperture plug-in follow these steps:
Open PortraitPro Studio
Go to Preferences -> Plug-in
In the 'Install Aperture Plug-in' section check that the plug-in path is correct. The plug-in should be installed in /Users//Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins. In case this path does not automatically show up in the textbox, or you have Aperture installed but you get the message 'Aperture does not appear to be installed on your system', please browse manually to the location stated above.
Click the 'Install plug-in' button.
You should get the 'Plug-in installed successfully' message. In case you get any errors please refer to our support team.
Alternatively, you can set up PortraitPro as an external editor for Aperture For instructions, see below.
To set up PortraitPro as an external editor for Aperture follow these steps:
  • Choose the Aperture menu and then go to “Preferences”.A dialog will appear in which you should choose the 'Export' section.
  • Press the 'Choose' button corresponding to the 'External Image/Photo Editor' label. A new dialog will pop up asking for the location of the program to run, and you should now locate PortraitPro Studio on your disk.
  • This is usually in /Applications/PortraitProStudio.app. When you have found PortraitPro Studio select it and press the “Select” button to dismiss the panel.
Now PortraitPro Studio is set up as an external editor for your images. To edit an image with PortraitPro Studio, right click and choose 'Edit with PortraitProStudio'.
Photoshop
Windows: Photoshop 6, 7, CS, CS2, CS3, CS4, CS5, CS6 or CC

The plug-in launcher needs to be launched manually, to do this:
Launch PortraitPro as a standalone program
In the Menu bar, click on PortraitPro Studio (or Studio Max) > Preferences
Click on the Plugin tab
Click on ‘Run Plug-in Installer’
Then follow the prompts to run the plug-in installer
Close PortraitPro
The next time you launch Photoshop PortraitPro will be available in the filters menu.
Windows
Follow the instructions in Affinity to browse to a folder that contains plugin files.
PortraitPro 19 will usually install them to these locations:

  • Create a folder called ‘AffinityPlugins’ in a location where you can easily find it, e.g. the Desktop
  • Run the PortraitPro 19 plugin installer (from the Preferences>Plugin tab)
  • At the ‘Photoshop Plugin’ step, click ‘Choose Install Path Manually’
  • Browse to the AffinityPlugins folder, select it and click ‘Open’
  • Continue the rest of the steps in the plugin installer
  • Launch Affinity and browse to the AffinityPlugins folder to add the plugins there
  • Restart Affinity and PP19 should be available in the Filter menu.
