This guide is about accessing Cognizant email from your personal laptop’s Outlook! Yes you do not need any special VPN privileges to configure your personal outlook for accessing Cognizant email. All you need is access to Cognizant OWA (Web Access to email). By default, all permanent employees of Cognizant have web access enabled as a default option except for the contractors.

This guide provides you with step by step instructions about configuring your outlook.

Step 1:

From the Control Panel, Select Mail. This will bring a dialog box as shown below:

Click on the ‘E-Mail Accounts’ button which will take you to the Account Settings screen.

Step 2:

In the Account Settings dialog that is displayed, select the ‘E-mail’ tab if it is not selected by default. Click on the ‘New’ button. This will take you to the new email account wizard.

Step 3:

In the ‘choose service’ dialog box, Choose ‘Email Account’ and click Next.

Step 4:

In the Add Account dialog box, select ‘Manual setup or additional server types’ and Click Next.

in the choose service dialog box, select ‘Microsoft Exchange Server or Compatible device’ and click Next.

In the server settings field, enter the following: ‘ctsinchnvcasa.cts.com’. In the username field enter ‘ctsuserid’ (e.g. cts112233).

Do not click on’ check name’ button now! You will need to make additional configurations before that.

Click on ‘More Settings’ button.

Step 7:

In the General Tab, please provide any name for this Exchange account. For e.g. ‘CTS Mail Account’

Step 8:

In the Advanced tab, select both the options under ‘Cached Exchange Mode settings’

Select ‘Use Cached Exchange mode’ check-box
Also select ‘Download Shared Folders’ check-box

Navigate to the Security Tab.

Ensure that ‘Always prompt for logon credentials’ is selected.

Enable ‘ Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP’ and click on the Exchange Proxy Settings button.

Set the text box next to ‘connect to proxy servers having this principal name in their certificate:’ enter the following: msstd:*.cognizant.com

Enable all check marks and Select ‘Basic Authentication’ in the proxy authentication settings.

You can configure Microsoft Outlook to access your Office 365 account by setting up an Exchange connection. An Exchange connection provides access your email, calendar, contacts, and tasks in Outlook.

Outlook 365 Cognizant Login

You can also set up Outlook to access your email by using IMAP. However, if you use IMAP you can only access your email from Outlook, not your calendar, contacts, and tasks.

Notes:

  • Office 365 is designed to work with any version of Microsoft Office in mainstream support.
  • Two-step authentication may also be required.

Get Outlook for Windows

Outlook is included with Microsoft Office 365. Faculty, staff, and graduate students with a full-service SUNet ID and undergraduate students with an Office 365 account can download Microsoft Office for Windows via webmail for free. See Microsoft Office for Windows for more information.

Configure Outlook for Windows

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. At the Welcome screen, click Next.
  3. When asked if you want to set up Outlook to connect to an email account, select Yes and then click Next.
  4. The Auto Account Setup wizard opens. Enter your name, your email address using your sunetid@stanford.edu, and your SUNet ID password. Then, click Next
  5. Outlook will complete the setup for your account, which might take several minutes. When you are notified that your account was successfully configured, click Finish.
  6. You may need to restart Outlook for the changes to take effect.

Change offline access setting

You can use Outlook on your laptop or desktop computer when you’re not connected to the Internet. Email, calendar, and other items are kept in an Outlook data file on your computer so you can work offline. You can set the duration of this setting to 1, 3, 6, 12, or 24 months, or All.

  1. In Outlook, click the File menu.
  2. Click Account Settings > Account Settings.
  3. In the Account Settings dialog box, with the E-mail tab selected, click Change.
  4. In the Offline Settings section, move the slider to select how long you want to keep mail on your computer for offline access. You can choose 1, 3, 6, 12, 24 months or All. Then click Next.
  5. Click Finish.
