Group Texts Not Coming Through

Having problems with messaging or email can leave you out of touch, let's get it working again.

  1. Group Messages Not Coming Through
  2. Group Texts Not Going Through
  3. Cannot Receive Group Text Messages

So we we have several Office 365 groups created through teams. When members or non-members email to these groups, they are received in the group inbox but not in their individual inbox. The option to subscribe/follow is already on. This is happening with any new group created as well.

Check on the following:

T-mobile
  1. I could read part of the message as it was a banner on my iphone. I couldn’t open and read full message at the time, I was in a meeting. Later, I opened the app and the message is not there.
  2. Check your default messaging app: On Android Messages: If your default messaging app is Android.
  3. It sounds like he was not 'Subscribed' to the group. You can be a member of an Office 365 Group and not be Subscribed. In that case you can view the messages manually, but they will not come to your Inbox. There is a checkbox on the General tab of the Group settings called Subscribe New Members.
  4. Any suggestions for a Motorola phone not receiving group texts from iPhone users? I can't send the group texts either. It just started this week (July 12, 2016). Talked to my carrier - Virgin Mobile and she assured me that the problem lies with iPhone users, not Virgin Mobile. I was told to let my friends know so they could reset their phones.

Message blocking or Family allowances isn't preventing messaging on your end or your recipient's.

Your device shows at least two signal bars. Check out Signal issues / no service troubleshooting.

Text and Picture Message issues
  1. Make sure the number was entered correctly, including country code. See Make an International Call for dialing patterns.

  4. Uninstall any downloaded messaging apps.
  5. Android devices:

  6. Apple devices:
    • If the message is blue, see iMessage.
    • If you or your contact had an iPhone and switched recently, turn off or unregister iMessage & FaceTime. See Apple Support.
    • Check whether picture messaging is turned on in Settings > Messages > turn on MMS Messaging.
    • Reset Network Settings in Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  7. Update your device software to the latest version.
  8. Delete all text threads. You can back these up beforehand using apps from the app store.
  9. Picture Messaging (MMS): Test sending one small picture to one recipient.
    • MMS is limited to 10 recipients per message.
    • MMS can take longer to get to your mobile device than a text.
    • All networks restrict the size of MMS. For T-Mobile, the max sending size 1MB, 3 MB for receiving and under 3072 x 3072 resolution.
    • MMS's may be automatically resized when sent, but may still be too large.
  10. If available, move the SIM card to another T-Mobile device and try texting from that device to determine if it's a network of device issue.

Types of group text messages

There are three types of group messages that you might see: group iMessage, group MMS, and group SMS. The Messages app automatically chooses the type of group message to send based on settings, network connection, and carrier plan. For example:

Group Messages Not Coming Through

Group Texts Not Coming Through
  • If you and your recipients are using Apple devices and iMessage is turned on, then the group message is sent as an iMessage.
  • If you send a group message to people who aren't using iMessage, then the message is sent as an MMS or SMS message.

Group iMessage

These messages appear in blue text bubbles. They go through Apple instead of your carrier, and are protected by end-to-end encryption. In a group iMessage, everyone can:

  • Send and receive photos, videos, and audio messages
  • See all responses from the group
  • Send and receive message effects, like sketches, animations, bubble effects, and more
  • Share their location with the group
  • Give the group a name, add or remove people from the group, mute notifications, or leave the group

Group MMS

These messages appear in green text bubbles and go through your carrier instead of Apple. In a group MMS, everyone can:

  • Send and receive photos and videos
  • See all responses from the group
  • Mute notifications

Group SMS

Coming

These messages also appear in green text bubbles and go through your carrier. Group SMS messages don’t support multimedia attachments, like photos or videos. All responses in a Group SMS are sent as individual text messages and the recipients can’t see the other responses from the group.
